There are trips you take…
And then there are moments that quietly change you.
Our vow exchange in Santorini was one of those moments.
It wasn’t just about exchanging vows.
It wasn’t just about Greece.
It was about slowing down, being present, and creating something that felt completely ours.
This is exactly how those five days unfolded.
✈️ Day 1: The Beginning
We boarded our Delta Air Lines flight out of Atlanta that afternoon, and I remember sitting there thinking…
This still doesn’t feel real.
You plan something like this for so long that when it finally happens, it almost feels like you’re watching it instead of living it.
But we were.
We were on our way to one of the most meaningful experiences of our lives.
🌅 Day 2: First Glimpse of Santorini
After what felt like a full day of traveling, we finally landed in Santorini and made our way outside to meet the private shuttle our Airbnb host had arranged for us. From the moment we stepped into the car, everything started to slow down. The drive in was quiet, peaceful, and filled with those unreal views you only ever see in pictures—but somehow even better in person.
When we arrived at our Airbnb in Imerovigli, we dropped our bags, stepped out onto the terrace, and just stood there for a minute. The view, the stillness, the calm after a long travel day… it was everything we needed.
Most people would’ve taken a nap at that point.
We didn’t.
Instead, we decided to go all in and start the Fira to Oia hike—starting right from Imerovigli.
It ended up being about five miles… and in hindsight, I made a very questionable decision to wear cute shoes for pictures instead of actual hiking shoes. At the time, it felt like a great idea. About halfway through? Not so much.
But honestly, the views made it all worth it.
We followed the path along the cliffs, taking in the most incredible scenery at every turn. At one point, we stopped at a tiny little shack along the way, grabbed a couple of beers, and just sat there for a bit, soaking it all in. It felt like one of those simple, unexpected moments that end up being your favorite.
As we kept going, we passed the donkey rides—which, for a second, felt like a very tempting option considering how my feet were feeling—but watching them, they looked just as exhausted as we were, so we kept pushing.
After about three hours, we finally made it into Oia… and I genuinely can’t put into words how beautiful it was. Every corner felt like a postcard.
We wandered through, found our way to PitaGyro, and ordered dinner to-go so we could take it back and enjoy it at the Airbnb.
And this time—no hiking back.
We grabbed a taxi (because at this point, my feet were absolutely done), and made it back to the villa just as the evening was settling in.
We opened the bottle of wine waiting in our room, changed into our swimsuits, and got into the hot tub—eating our dinner right there in the water, overlooking the cliffs and the sea.
And I remember thinking…
This is exactly what I prayed this trip would feel like.
🤍 Day 3: The Day Everything Changed
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully put this day into words—but I’ll try.
We woke up slowly that morning, with the soft light coming through the windows and the view of the water right outside. There was no alarm, no rush, no chaos—just a quiet kind of excitement sitting in the air.
We made coffee, had breakfast at the villa, and for a little while, it just felt like any other peaceful morning… except it wasn’t.
Around 10am, my florals were delivered, and I remember just staring at them for a second. That was the moment it all clicked. This was the day. Everything we had planned, talked about, dreamed of—it was actually happening.
We took a walk through Imerovigli, letting ourselves stay in that calm feeling just a little longer before everything began. I’m so glad we did, because once the day picked up, it moved fast—but in the best way.
Hair and makeup started around 1:30pm, and from that point on, the energy shifted—but not into stress like you might expect. It turned into excitement. Into fun. Into one of those moments where you wish you could just pause time and stay there a little longer.
While I was getting ready, Forrest was doing his own thing—writing his vows, sitting back with a cigar, just taking everything in. Meanwhile, our photographer and videographer had already arrived and were capturing all of those little in-between moments. The best part was how natural everything felt. They had worked together so many times before, and it showed. There was no awkwardness, no pressure—just laughter, music, and a really good atmosphere.
Once my hair and makeup was done, it was time to get dressed—and it ended up being one of my favorite moments of the entire day.
It was just the two of us.
No bridal party. No distractions. No noise.
Forrest helped me into my dress, and it was such a quiet, intimate moment that I don’t think I would’ve gotten any other way. It wasn’t rushed or staged—it was just real.
After that, we loaded up and started driving through Santorini, stopping at different locations as the sun began to soften. And everywhere we went, people noticed. They smiled, stopped us, complimented us—some even asked to take photos with us. It felt surreal, like we had stepped into something bigger than just a day.
Eventually, we made our way to Skaros Rock, and I’ll never forget how it felt standing there.
The cliffs, the wind, the quiet, the way the water stretched endlessly in front of us—it felt like the world slowed down just for that moment.
We exchanged our vows around 5:30pm, and I can honestly say it was everything I hoped it would be and more. There was something about it being just us—no audience, no distractions—that made it feel so much deeper.
Afterward, we stayed for photos as the sun started to set, and it felt like the entire island was glowing.
By the time we made it back to our Airbnb, the night was already waiting for us.
Candles were lit across the terrace, dinner was set, and everything felt calm again—like the perfect exhale after such an emotional day.
We sat down around 8pm, poured some wine, and just talked. Replaying the day, laughing, trying to process that it had actually happened.
And even after dinner, we weren’t ready for it to end.
So we left the villa, walked down the path, and found a small, tucked-away restaurant where we kept the night going—drinks, laughter, no timeline, no expectations.
Just us, still celebrating.
🌊 Day 4: Slowing Down
The morning after our vow exchange felt… different.
Softer. Slower. Like everything had settled.
We woke up without alarms again, still a little in disbelief that the day we had spent so long planning had already come and gone. There was no rush to get anywhere, no timeline to follow—just the quiet feeling of being fully present.
We took our time that morning. Coffee, breakfast at the villa, soaking in the view we had somehow gotten used to—but still couldn’t believe was real.
Eventually, we made our way into Oia, wandering through the streets with no real plan. It felt different than the first time we arrived. There was no pressure to see everything or capture every moment—we were just there to enjoy it.
We grabbed lunch, walked through the shops, stopped for photos here and there, and just let the day unfold naturally.
But the real highlight was still ahead of us.
The Sunset Cruise with Sailing Santorini
That afternoon, we were picked up and taken down to the marina, where we boarded our catamaran for the sunset cruise—and from the moment we stepped on, it felt like one of those experiences you know you’ll never forget.
We sailed along the coastline, passing some of the most unreal scenery:
the red cliffs of Red Beach
the bright contrasts of White Beach
hidden caves and rock formations carved into the island
Every turn felt like a different version of Santorini.
We made a few stops along the way, including one for swimming—and let me just say… the water was freezing.
That didn’t stop Forrest.
Without hesitation, he jumped right in, completely embracing the moment, and I think that might’ve been my favorite part of the entire experience—just watching him out there, smiling, fully in it.
It’s funny how sometimes the best memories aren’t the big planned moments, but the simple ones—like watching someone you love be genuinely happy.
Back on the boat, we dried off, grabbed drinks, and settled in as dinner was served. The food was incredible—fresh, flavorful, and somehow even better with the ocean all around us.
And then… the sunset.
There’s really no way to describe it.
The sky slowly shifting colors, the way the light reflected off the water, everything turning warm and golden—it felt like the perfect closing moment to everything we had just experienced.
Ending the Day the Best Way
By the time we got back, we were exhausted—but in the best kind of way.
Instead of calling it a night right away, we stopped at a small liquor store, grabbed a couple bottles of wine and some food, and made our way back to the Airbnb.
And just like the night before, we climbed into the hot tub.
Wine in hand. Quiet night. The same incredible view.
No plans. No schedule.
Just us, winding down after one of the most perfect days.
We didn’t last long after that—we were completely exhausted and crashed hard.
But it was the kind of exhaustion that comes from doing something you’ll never forget.
🏛️ Day 5: Athens & The Perfect Surprise Ending
Leaving Santorini that morning felt bittersweet.
We packed up slowly, taking one last look at the view from our Airbnb—the cliffs, the water, the place that had just given us some of the most meaningful moments of our lives. It’s funny how quickly somewhere can start to feel like home, even when you’ve only been there a few days.
We made our way to the airport and caught our flight to Athens, and just like that, everything shifted.
Santorini had been calm, quiet, almost dreamlike.
Athens felt alive—full of energy, history, and movement.
After checking into our hotel, we didn’t waste any time. We headed out to explore, making our way to the Acropolis, taking in the history and the views overlooking the city. It was one of those moments where you pause and think about how much life exists in one place—how many stories have happened right where you’re standing.
We spent the afternoon wandering, soaking it all in, letting the city lead us wherever it wanted.
But what made that night unforgettable… wasn’t something we planned.
By complete coincidence, my dad’s boss happened to be in Athens at the exact same time. And what started as a simple connection turned into something so much more meaningful.
Mrs. Wanda graciously hosted us for a celebration dinner at the beautiful Electra Palace Athens, and I don’t think we could’ve asked for a more perfect ending to the trip.
We sat there overlooking the city, with the Acropolis glowing in the background, reflecting on everything we had just experienced—the vows, the island, the memories we had created together.
It felt surreal.
Not just because of where we were, but because of how everything had come together—some things planned, some completely unexpected, all of it perfect in its own way.
That dinner didn’t just feel like a meal.
It felt like a celebration of everything this trip had been.

✈️ Departure Day
The next morning, we packed up and headed to the airport.
And I remember thinking…
How do you leave something like this?
But the truth is—you don’t.
You carry it with you.
💭 Final Thoughts
If you’re thinking about a Santorini vow exchange or something similar…
Do it.
Don’t wait for the perfect timing.
Don’t overthink every detail.
Just go.
Because moments like this don’t just become memories.
They become part of your story.
